Position Summary

The Community Mortgage Lender is responsible for developing and originating residential mortgage loans with a focus on expanding homeownership opportunities for low-to-moderate income borrowers and communities. This position combines mortgage lending expertise with community outreach, relationship development, and education to help borrowers identify affordable and appropriate home financing options.

Essential Responsibilities

• Develop and implement community-focused mortgage lending strategies to generate loan opportunities within assigned markets.
• Promote mortgage lending and homeownership opportunities to low-to-moderate income borrowers and within low-to-moderate income and underserved communities.
• Build relationships with community organizations, housing agencies, Realtors, builders, nonprofit organizations, and other referral partners.
• Conduct and/or attend outreach events and mortgage presentations within the community.
• Identify and develop mortgage loan opportunities through community involvement, networking, referrals, and targeted outreach.
• Consult with prospective borrowers to evaluate mortgage needs, prequalify applicants, and recommend appropriate loan products and programs.
• Maintain strong knowledge of conventional and government mortgage products, affordable lending programs, and available down-payment and closing-cost assistance programs.
• Assist borrowers in identifying and applying for available down-payment assistance and other homeownership assistance programs.
• Guide borrowers through the mortgage process from initial application through closing while maintaining regular communication and providing a high level of customer service.
• Work collaboratively with mortgage operations, processing, underwriting, and closing team to facilitate timely and compliant loan closings.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with applicable federal and state mortgage regulations, fair lending requirements, HMDA requirements, and company policies.
• Develop and maintain a pipeline of qualified mortgage applicants while meeting established production, outreach, and community lending goals.

Qualifications

• Mortgage lending, community development, affordable housing, or related experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of residential mortgage products and the mortgage origination process.
• Knowledge of affordable housing, first-time homebuyer, down-payment assistance, and community lending programs strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and generate business through community outreach and referral partnerships.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal team.
• Willingness to participate in community events and occasionally work outside normal business hours.
• Must successfully complete required NMLS education and testing and obtain and maintain applicable Mortgage Loan Originator licenses for  Mississippi and Alabama.
